Since the release date is drawing near, I made a book trailer for The Hush! I’m super excited to share it today:
It’s hard to believe, but The Hush is only a few short weeks away! To celebrate its release, there will be a public book launch at Dymocks Melbourne on Friday 6 March.
DATE: Friday 6 March 2015
TIME: 6:30 pm
LOCATION: Dymocks Melbourne, 234 Collins St, Melbourne
RSVP: levents@dymocks.com.au
Drinks and nibbles will be provided. I’ll be giving a short presentation, answering reader questions and signing books.
The event is free, but please RSVP by 25 February so we know the numbers for catering purposes. Hope to see you there!
In other news, I recently received my author copies of The Hush.
It’s always such a thrill to hold a new book for the first time. Amazing to think that this time last year it was just a Word document on my laptop!
Today I received my German copies of Chasing the Valley, recently published by DTV Junior! This edition is a gorgeous hardcover with a foxary on the front:
In Germany, the series is titled Magnetic Valley and the first book is called Die Flucht der Fünf. Here’s the back cover:
Finally, here’s a glimpse of the first page:
It’s amazing to see the book in another language!
It’s time to reveal the cover of my next book!
I absolutely love this cover and I’m so excited to share it with you all. It’s such a thrill to see my story represented in visual form:

The Hush is due to be released in early March 2015.
To celebrate the launch of iOS8, iBooks Australia has selected several books to offer for FREE for a limited time — and one of them is Chasing the Valley!
You can grab the book from iBooks here: http://bit.ly/1mdguDi
If you have any friends who might enjoy the series, this could be a great chance to try out the first book for free. The prices of Borderlands and Skyfire have also been reduced during the promotion.
Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to be a judge in the Sony Young Movellist Australia competition. The results have now been announced on the Movellas website: http://www.movellas.com/blog/show/201408221132537516/sony-young-movellist-australia-the-winners
I was blown away by the quality of the shortlisted entries. Each manuscript had its own strengths and it was incredibly difficult to choose a winner.
Huge congratulations to the winner and runners-up! Your novels were clever, creative and a joy to read.
Congratulations also to every young writer who submitted a story. The standard of entries was exceptional. No doubt I’ll be seeing many of your names in the bookshops one day!
Guess what? This Saturday (August 9) is National Bookshop Day! It’s a wonderful day to celebrate the importance of bookshops in our community.
Last year, I had great fun participating in an author flashmob at Readings in Carlton (see https://skyemelki-wegner.com/archives/1639).
This year, I’m helping out at Dymocks Melbourne as an “author cashier”. Dymocks has planned an amazing day of authors, illustrators, cosplayers and even craft demonstrations! Best of all, the event is raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
There will be authors and performers popping in and out all day. My time slot is from 11:45am to 12:45pm. If you’d like to come along and say hello or get your books signed, it would be great to see you there!
DATE: 9th August 2014
TIME: 11:45am – 12:45pm for me, but the event will run all day with different authors, performers and activities!
LOCATION: Dymocks Melbourne, 234 Collins St
COST: Free
I’m thrilled to announce that my next book, The Hush, will be published by Random House Australia in early 2015.
The Hush is a YA fantasy novel, set in a whole new world of magic, danger and adventure.
More details are coming soon!
I’m excited to be participating in this event for teachers at The Little Bookroom next month.
If you’re a teacher, it would be lovely to see you there!

Hooray, it’s PUBLICATION DAY!!!
Chasing the Valley: Skyfire is out today, which means the trilogy is now complete.
(It’s also a year today since the first book was published, which means it’s Chasing the Valley‘s first birthday!)
To the awesome team at Random House — thanks so much for giving me this opportunity.
To all teachers, booksellers & librarians — you helped to inspire my love of reading and writing. Thanks for everything that you do!
Above all, to all my wonderful readers — thanks so much for your support. I hope that you enjoy the story!
